What to do during lockdown???

With this virus lockdown what is one to do, I cannot visit my usual haunts, I am even warned about walking down the road by myself to post a letter. So I dug out one of my infra-red cameras and last night I set it up in my front garden under my bedroom window. At two minutes to midnight a fox came through the hole in the hedge.
I had left some biscuits out for him which he quickly gobbled up and to my surprise instead of leaving he made himself comfortable and settled down for rest.
He sat watching some activity by the street lamp on the road for ten minutes or more.
Before looking at me to say goodnight and quietly left. Roll on tonight perhaps he will bring a few friends along

  1. Lovely to see Mike. My garden has definitely seen a bit of tidying in the past few days to keep me busy.

    1. Thanks Marc, We are in the process of rewilding the garden and make it as attractive as we can for the wildlfe, so far so good. Stay clean. Mike.

  2. That must be quite a thrill Mike. I often wonder if foxes come to our garden in the night as i know they are in the area. I think the local population might thrive this year if they are left alone.

    1. Hi Phil, Until I bought myself the infra-red camera Phil I had no idea what went on after dark. I first used one when I lived in a town and was astounded on the first nights results. I put out tit-bits for the animals at night and the camera was used to make sure I was not feeding rats and I soon learned that if you have got foxes you don't have rats. I now have badgers, just waiting for some good shots.

  3. Hi Mike,
What a marvellous experience to have both Foxes and a badger in your, We get the odd fox visit but never any badgers garden. I visit a local Park for the Badgers but that is not possible at the moment.
    Keep safe,
    My best wishes,
    John

    1. Hi John,
I've always had hedgehogs and the occasional fox but it wasn't until I got the infra-red camera tha I realized just what went on after dark. I sometimes sit up at night and watch the animals from my bedroom window.
      Stay safe,
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
