Problems

I have learned that some folk classify foxes as vermin and object to me feeding them. I have said this before that when I moved here 11 years ago we discovered the area was infested with rats. They could be seen running about the gardens in broad daylight. Neighbours contacted a local contractor who for  a fee said he could get rid of them. He failed after several attempts so I introduced natures way with some friendly foxes. Within a week or so the rats vanished and the foxes moved in. They made friends with the local pets and I have pictures of them sharing food. I have pictures of them which I have shown before playing and eating together.

  1. It’s the people who are the vermin not the foxes. Keep enjoying them, Mike.

  2. I find myself a bit worried that some folk are not happy with you feeding the foxes, Mike, in case they try to harm them. Hopefully, the majority of your neighbours sympathise and support your feeding of the foxes. Maybe you could make the supportive neighbours aware of the moaners and get them to try and change their views - citing the rat control aspect perhaps?

    Good luck and best wishes - - - Richard

  3. Hello Mike :=)
    The people who complain the most have not a clue as to the foxes worth, and I doubt very much if they are nature lovers. It saddens me that they complain, and I think that Richards idea is a good one.
    All the best
    Sonjia.

    1. I quite agree Sonjia, but the support I now have locally has changed things a bit. I shall carry on with my friends. Take care.
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
