My first of the year

Slow start to the year because of the weather mostly. When I go out with the camera I need to find somewhere warm and comfortable which of course at this time of the year is almost impossible. Today seemed a good day to visit the Wetlands and see what I could get over a cup of coffee or even lunch.
Among the sightings were, kingfisher x 2, dabchick, egret, goldcrest, firecrest, the small birds were flitting about in the bushes and in poor light I couldn't get any shots, the kingfishers were too quick for me(both in flight) so I had to settle for a display by the grey lag geese.
Better luck next time. I enjoyed my lunch though.

  1. Good to see you up and running Mike and a few nice images to start the year off with. I'm also birding a new patch this year (Nethergong Birding) as well as the dragonflies when they awake. Hope all works out for you.

    1. Thanks Marc, I think it will improve as the season gets going. Meanwhile, I'll keep up with your birding.
      Mike.

  2. Delighted to see you managed to get out with the camera, Mike. I know how difficult it can be in bad or uncertain weather if one is not on form. Those are delightful images of the Greylags - well worth the effort of getting out.

Take good care. Best wishes - - - Richard

    1. Thankyou Richard it gave me a real boost to do it again. I must save up some extra energy, I'll not wait for it to get warmer. Take care Mike.

  3. We've had similar grey dank days for a week now. It makes for few opportunities Mike. Stick with it if you can, spring will soon be here.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
