Parteners

Sometimes odd things happen in front of the camera.  These pictures were taken on different tmes and of different birds in different locations. A little bit of food is thrown down on a regular basis and it is surprising how quickly word gets around. This was done for experimentation and as you can see it was a total success.
Raven and a white kite came in together on several occasions. This shot was taken in Wales.
Raven and buzzard at a place in Sussex. On private property which I promised not reveal its location.

  3. Hi Mike
Such pictures are seldom seen, mostly the birds of prey chase away everyone else, well seen and photographed
    Stay healthy

  4. Your local Buzzards are either very accommodating or very hungry. No chance of those pictures around here Mike. Nice work. Have a great Christmas.

  6. To get a close shot of a Raven on the ground is amazing, Mike. To get a close shot of a white Red Kite is utterly amazing. The two together - WOW!!!!!!!!

Take great care, stay safe, and have a Happy Christmas and a healthy and wildlife-productive 2021 - - - Richard

    1. Hi Richard,
These birds can spot a bit of meat from several hundred feet so I tempt them for some time before then rhey get used to my visits and in fact sometimes they are waiting for me to arrive.
Happy Christmas to you and a Prosperous New Year. Stay safe.
      Mike.

    1. Hi German,
They are rare, probably only 10-15 in the British Isles. It is a fault at birth and although they live a normal life they are not known to produce young. Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
      Good Luck. Mike.

    1. Hello John,
Those shots were really a bit of fortune. I have seen them on occasions but only twice together in 15 years. I have had my first jab only 10 days to my second and we have just gone into tier 4. Just my luck! Stay safe.
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
