Jacque needed to go shopping today so I said OK as long as I choose the route. After shopping I chose the route home and went past the spot where a week or so we had seen a number of fallow deer. There they were again not so many but much closer to the road.
Again they were quite calm and took little notice of me and carried on feeding. The nearest one was about 30m away.
I watched them for about 15 minutes until a noisy motor cycle went passed that scared the males off but this one just gave it a glance and carried on grazing.

About Me
- Mike Attwood
- Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
These are beautiful images of gorgeous creatures, Mike. Those antlers are amazing! A great choice of shopping route. Take great care - - - Richard

Hello Mike,
ReplyDeleteFallow Deer are such beautiful animals and always a pleasure to watch, but then an idiot on a motorcycle passes and it all ends. On a trip like that I'm not surprised you don't mind going shopping.
You and yours stay safe.
John
Hello John, Fortuneately we dont get many motorcycles on the back roads, they are too slow, its only old codgers like me that use them. Stay safe.

Good Morning Mike,:=) I would always take the same route, if there was even the slightest chance of seeing Fallow Deer. The only ones I have seen were in a park. Your photos are beautiful, and a treat to see.
ReplyDeleteThe pesticides are destroying the insect world, but we don't use them on the farm. Perhaps you will encounter some more Peregrins when restrictions are lifted.
Keep well, and safe.
Hello Sonjia,
ReplyDeleteJacque and I have several places to shop and they are all in different directions. The use of pesticides is a problem localy and at the moment I can find no support. I have seen a banned pesticide on sale but now find the ban has been withdrawn. Still no news on the peregrines. Stay safe and take care of yourself.
Mike.
What a wonderful experience to find fallow deer in the wild as you can see ... they are all beautiful animals.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
Greetings from Indonesia.
Hello Himawan Sant.
DeleteI live in a beautiful part of southern England where animals roam free, they get used to human contact and become quite approachable. They even appear in my garden in the middle of my village. Stay safe.
