The foxes do me proud

Every evening the foxes call for their refreshment. They are so regular that you can set your watch by them.
Nearly always there is two or three together. They are happy to share.
Allways alert for the unwelcome guest.
This one has spotted me at my bedroom window, not that it will bother him.
He will often sit and pose for the camera. I am hoping that one day they will be bold enough to accept me much closer.

  1. I suspect that by now they would accept you, Mike. Animals have a wonderful sense of who is friend or foe. Let us know if you have closer contact. Probably better not to point a camera at them initially. All the best - David

    1. I think they have David but it hasn't quite clicked yet. Once or twice a fox has sat and looked at me for a moment then slowly crept away.

  2. I suspect that most of the action is taking place while you are sound asleep, Mike. However, if they do start visiting at convenient hours, I'd be tempted to do as David suggest. If you sat quietly and laid a food trail from where you usually put out the food to a point a little nearer to you they might be tempted. There are people out there who have foxes visiting them and coming to the door to ask for food!

    Take good care - - - Richard

    1. Thanks Marc, I just like the animals around. We had rats when we moved in seven years ago and the foxes cleared them up so this is a sort of repayment. Take care.

    1. Hi Frank, I don't know about the 'delicious cookies' but they love my biscuits. In the meantime I shall enjoy trying. Take care.

  5. Hello Mike, I may have many species of creatures in my garden, but I don't have foxes,...lucky you!. One day they may become more confiding and come to your door. I hope so!

We do have foxes on the farm, and they have successfully raised three youngsters. Paula was returning home one evening and in her headlights she saw three cubs playing in our driveway, they were naturally startled, so she dimmed the lights, and saw then run away back into the fields. She told me how beautiful they were, and it will be something she will always remember. I wish I had seen them.
All the best, to both you and Jacque.:=)

    1. I encouraged the foxes to visit soon after we moved into the village because there were rats. A farmer told me as a child that he loved foxes because they controlled the rats on his farm. I have found this is so. Foxes are very intellegent creatures and can be trained like a dog. I went to a lecture many years ago the man had two foxes that were behaving just like dogs and they went for walks on leads. I would like my foxes to get to that stage. Best wishes to you both.
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
