Suprise suprise!

I had a good night with the animals yesterday. I managed to set the IR camera up perfectly and there was no rain or frost to mess up the lenses. The badger settled down to feed and I got these two pictures.
He moved into the best spot of all right infront of the lens.
While I was posting this blog tonight I heard a scuffling outside my room window. I drew the curtains slowly and to my amazement there was the badger sitting there looking at me. I was able to get a camera quickly and get this shot before he wandered off. Sorry about the quality but I never had time to focus before the security light went out.

  1. That was a stroke of luck, Mike! I sense that you might be sitting there waiting, with the camera already set up, ready for the next time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Best wishes - - - Richard

    1. I had my I/R camera set up in the back garden and he had come to the front so I had to quickly set my normal camera for night work. So for tonight Richard I have set it up all ready and I bet he does'nt come. Still you can't win them all.

  2. Hello Mike,:=) Never the less, you got it's photo, and you will be ready to focus better next time, as now the Badger is a frequent visitor.
    All the best.

    1. I'm ready for him tonight Sonjia. I was so dissapointed because it would have been the best picture I'd ever got at night of a badger. Take care.

    1. It is something I've dreamed of all my life is to have close contact with wild animals, but I didn't think it would happen at my age. Take care David.
      Regards, Mike.

  4. I am impressed with your cat-free zone Mike. Now I all I need is a few badgers and foxes. Or a Jack Russell.

  5. Hi Mike,
The IR camera has done its job well, now the animals just have to get to know sensible times so that you can get your night's rest again..;-))
    Greetings Frank

  6. Hello Frank. The camera is automatic so if I get it set right I can go to bed and not worry about it. I have new security lights which are perfect for night photography so now its up to the animals.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
