Red Fox

In my younger days when I was more active I used to visit places that were not frequented by humans and animals did not fear you. I often found that sitting quietly in a secluded spot a wild animal would approach because it did not know what you were. This has happened several times during my long life.
This picture is of a young fox that had probably never seen a man before. It was less than a metre away before it turned and ran. This sort of thing has happened many times to me.

  1. I find young foxes very curious, but when they get older and discover the true nature of man they are wise to be wary. Yours is a special bond, Mike.

    1. You are quite right David. Dad fox is still a bit wary of me but the youngsters enjoy my company and come running when I call them.
I am going to try to keep it that way.

  2. What an absolutely gorgeous photo of a delightful creature, Mike. How anyone would want to harm such an animal beggars belief!

My very best wishes - - - Richard

    1. Thankyou Richard, I've got about 400 like that. They are beautiful creatures and when one gets to know them they become something special in ones life.

  3. '...when animals did not fear you'. Will those times ever come back? You're lucky to have had those experiences. Cheers!

    1. I don't think it is fear I believe it is mistrust. My animals trust me and feel safe with me. It takes a little time for a new one to learn to trust me. Thankyou for your interest.
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
