When I moved to my village over 10 years ago I discovered to my amazement that a family of peregrine falcons lived nearby. It did not take me long to locate the nesting site.
The site is perfect for photography. The nest is high on a cliff face of a quarry with excellent access.
Here is a couple of youngsters playing.
I never did find out what Dad brought back to the nest.
Because of the good cover I can get quite close when they land. I often have one fly over the house.

About Me
- Mike Attwood
- Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
Hi Mike
ReplyDeleteYou were very close, the camouflage was very good and you got great photos, anyone who photographs wildlife knows how difficult it is to get such photos. Thank you for showing me
Greetings Frank
Thankyou Frank, It is an excellent nest site. One can park the car on the road and photograph the birds while sitting in the car, or one can drive into Chichester and photograph them at the cathedral nest site.

Oh I envy you here Mike, peregrine falcon nesting at photo distance wasn´t bad.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the nature experience and to excellent photo shots !
Greetings Lasse
Thankyou Lasse, The peregrine thrives here because there are lots of people who care about them. I know of at least 5 nest sites within 10 miles of my home.

ReplyDeleteBest wishes - stay safe - - - Richard
Not as fit as I was, then I used to spend as much as 20hours a week sitting in the car watching these birds performing, I still see them now and then over the fields near my home.
