Little foxes

I had a little success with the ifra/red camera. It has to be set up accurately or the pictures are ruined. The first picture show dad fox approaching the food.
Then he tucks into the meal of assorted dog bicuits and black grapes, yes they are rather partial to a grape.
After Dad comes a little one, he quickly starts to tuck in.
He enjoys the meal and eats a fair share before wandering off for a drink.
Which gives the chance of another to share in the meal.
This one really feels at home and sits comfortably to enjoy his share. They all seemed quite happy with the garden lights on and spent over half an hour enjoying the comfort of my garden.

  1. Such a great relationship you have with these foxes, Mike. They are wonderful creatures and have obviously found a safe haven in your yard, with succulent offerings at the Canid Café. All the best, David

    1. Hi David, I rescued a young fox once and returned him to his family and he became my friend. It was on a nature reserve and people noticed the loyalty this fox had to me. I got some wonderful pictures of him. I hope I can acheive the same with Junior. Take care.

  3. Hi Frank. This is the third generation of this family that I feed. My neighbours enjoy seeing them trotting down the road to pay me a visit.

  4. Grapes as fox food is new one on me Mike. The family certainly feel safe and secure in your wildlife haven. You're doing a great job.

    1. Hi Phil,
I realised they like fruit when over the last couple years they were pulling the apples off the lower branches of my trees. So I put a few old grapes down and found they loved them and prefered them to my apples. They like black grapes best. Take care.

  5. I was interested to hear that foxes like grapes, Mike. I might have to try that one! I'm delighted that the youngsters are now confidently visiting you. Your dedication is exemplary. Stay safe - - - Richard

    1. Hi Richard, I have known for some time they like sweet things and the grapes are left overs that I have failed to eat on time. The youngsters seem to be settling in well. They will always be welcome. Take care.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
