Winning the Battle

A couple of photo's from the past.

I got interested in wild animals while I was evacuated to a village in Yorkshire for five years during the 2nd World War. It was a beautiful house on the banks of the river. The man I lived with was a military photographer and he taught me all about photography. I was actually helping in the production of  prints for the war office at the age of five. Foxes used to come into our garden and be fed. being  in the country rats and mice were plentiful and I soon learned that the presence of foxes controlled their numbers. Moving into the house where we now live we soon discovered that rats were a bit of a problem being close to woodland. So I got to work on making friends with the foxes. They are seen often in daylight and the locals love them. We now live free from rats and mice. The foxes are no trouble for the local animals and I have photographed on several occasions the foxes sharing the food with cats, dogs, hedgehogs and badgers. Up to date photo's very soon.

  1. Hello Mike :=)
    Lovely shots of these very photogenic creatures. I enjoyed reading about how the foxes share food with cats, dogs, hedgehogs, and badgers, which is quite a revelation. I'm glad your garden is now rat free, and that the foxes are also accepted by your neighbours.
    All the best.

    1. Hello Sonjia, I find it amazing the animals behaviour in the garden, and they met several times. They are better than a couple of dogs.
      Take care, Mike.

  2. I am very pleased to hear that you are progressing with your battle against the vagaries of technology, Mike. Those are absolutely charming photos of the foxes, and I look forward to seeing more recent photos in the not too distant future.

    Take good care - - - Richard

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
