Fox pair

This is the pair of foxes that come to dinner most evenings. On the left is Mum and on the right is Junior. Junior has been around for several years and was only a few months old when he first appeared. Mum has had young in the past few months  and I am not yet discovered whether Junior is the Dad.
Mum is quite used to me and when I appear at my window she is not bothered and will look and then carry on with whatever she is doing. I know there are youngsters somewhere as Mum often runs off with a mouthful of biscuits, then comes back later for more.

Both of these pictures were taken after dark and lit by a street lamp some 10m away.

  1. It is quite remarkable that you have developed a sort of family relationship with these foxes, Mike. It must bring you great joy. I hope they keep coming and if the female has a family perhaps she will bring some of her kits too. All the best. David

    1. Thankyou David,
I am a strong believer that relationships are possible between human and animals. I learned this at about the age of 16 when I met a man in Sutton taking his cheetah for a walk. I kept it a secret for many years. I had a lot of respect for for the way he cared for the animal. I care for animals, I treat them with respect and I find I get it in return. Take care and stay safe.

    1. Hi Marc,
I do not believe in taming animals. It is trust. When you get an animal to trust you it will do things to please, people call this taming, I call it trust. I consider it to be an honour for an animal to trust me. Take care and stay safe.

    1. Hi Frank,
You are quite right a fox is an intellegent animal and quickly learns. This female has already worked out when to call for food. I am expecting her to bring her family round any day now. They will be most welcome. Stay safe.
      Mike.

    1. Thankyou Richard,
I think Junior is the offspring of Mum and Junior may have found a mate of his own. As they visit every night I hope to find out soon. Stay safe.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
