Fox keeps me going

Junior calls just after night fall every night without fail. He comes into the garden through a gap in the hedge. He stands for a moment to check it is safe for him.
He then picks up mouthfulls of biscuits and trots off to feed his family.
Returning sometime later he tucks in himself and then has a rest while watching passing people and traffic the other side of the hedge.
When it gets a bit too noisey with people returning from the pub he will lie in the long grass under the fruit trees. He never runs away, I think he feels protected in my garden. I look forward to his visits as I do not get out much anymore it makes me feel satisfied that I am doing my bit for nature.

  2. Those noisy revellers will never know what they are missing on the other side of the hedge, Mike, and perhaps it's just as well. "Silly humans", the fox probably thinks! It's always a pleasure to see your coverage of these wonderful animals that we have persecuted for far too long. Stay well! Take care! All the best. David

    1. It was quite amusing to watch they were less than 3m away and he never flinched. I love the foxes, everywhere I have lived in my life I have had a friendly fox to photograph. I have well over 1000 photo's on file. Take care.

Sorry about the late reply, I'm afraid my age is catching up with me. Take care,

  5. You're doing a great job Mike. Helping the local foxes in supplying food, safety and a record of their comings and goings. Keeping yourself positive too.

  6. Hi Mike, Wonderful to follow your "nature job" in the garden. The fox has a refugee (was that the right word) there ! He is very calm and safe that's for sure. All the best,

    1. Hi Lasse,
I have several animals that visit the garden, badgers, hedgehogs and other foxes but junior is something special. He wll just sit quietly when people walk past its only the headlights of cars that make him nervous. He is three years old now his mum and dad have both gone so I think he treats me as family. Take care.

  8. I'm so pleased that you have these Foxes to keep you entertained, Mike, and that these Foxes have you to look after them too. It seems you have a wonderful relationship with these magnificent creatures.

    Stay safe - - - Richard

  9. They have differing personalities Richard, One is a bit of a bully, another is very shy but Junior who I photograph the most is a real charmer. I am sure sometimes he will pose for me. I often see him resting in the long grass. Take care.
    Mike.

You are so fortunate in having these delightful creatures to keep you happy and with a real interest they are obviously very relaxed in your garden even when it gets noisy.
    My best wishes,

    1. Hello John,
I have several foxes that visit, some are nervous but one really has settled in to be a companion, He is now teaching an ofspring that it is safe and he is making a good job of it. They will always be welcome. Take care.
      Mike.

About Me

My photo
Evacuated during the second world war to a village in Yorkshire where I lived in the home of a good photographer for more than five years who taught me the basics and a great deal about nature. Well past retirement age I have been a wildlife photographer for more than 30 years. Red Kites have been my speciality for much of this period. I did spend several years snapping wheelchair athletes and organizing the British Road Race Championship. In the year 2000 I was awarded a distinction by the Royal Photographic Society for my portfolio on wheelchair athletes. Most of my pics are digital, using Sony cameras and Sigma lenses. I used to spend many weeks each year with friends in Wales which is close to the Elan Valleys where I got many of my raptor pics. I now get these pictures more closely to home, specially red kites and peregrines. I support my pension by selling my pics, cards, coasters, fridge magnets and key rings etc. at craft fairs, something I wish I had done much earlier in life. I give illustrated talks to clubs and societies on wildlife and other branches of photography that I have been involved in.
